Breaking News: A French man found the remains of five newborns in boxes at his home following a dispute with his wife.
A man in France discovered the decomposing remains of five babies hidden in boxes at his family home in Orange, following an argument with his wife. The discovery occurred after the woman was hospitalised with abdominal pain, having recently given birth to a sixth child at home. The husband alerted authorities while his wife was undergoing treatment, according to Fox News.
The 32-year-old man reportedly became aware of his wife’s repeated pregnancies only after finding the boxes, and despite her previous denials. The remains, including bones and a decomposing body, are believed to be those of five newborns, with forensic analysis underway to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The Sun reports that an investigating source stated: “All the [fetuses] were decomposing, and had been around for quite a while.”
Prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into suspected murder, and child welfare services are assessing the couple’s two existing children, aged eight and nine. A provisional placement order has been issued for the newborn. The woman, currently hospitalised, has yet to be questioned by investigators.
The couple were described by neighbours as “charming people”, with no prior history of issues. The Daily Mail reports a neighbour stating they were “normal people, really.” Authorities have ordered autopsies and further laboratory testing to establish the age of the remains and determine the cause of death.
Further investigations are focused on confirming the timeline of events and establishing the reasons for the concealment of the infants. The case has prompted concern for the welfare of the couple’s surviving children.
