Breaking News: A Palestinian family in Kusra report continued harassment by Israeli settlers despite military intervention.
A Palestinian family in the West Bank village of Kusra are reporting they remain under threat from extremist Israeli settlers, despite the Israeli military dismantling a temporary outpost near their home. Qusai Abu Ridi, a resident of the village, stated settlers remain in the vicinity, causing fear of further attacks.
The family’s home, on the outskirts of Kusra, has been targeted by settlers in recent days. Although the initial makeshift camp was removed on Wednesday, settlers have re-established a presence close to the house, according to Abu Ridi. He reports they are visible from his window, and have already thrown stones at the property. Abu Ridi attributes the escalation to recent clashes in the nearby village of Tell. He claims settler harassment began in January and has intensified, leaving the family feeling “besieged” and fearing expulsion.
Abu Ridi stated the settlers’ aim appears to be forcing his family from their home. “We will hold on to our land and property,” he told The Jerusalem Post. His brother, an American citizen, has contacted the US embassy for assistance and is due to arrive in Kusra on Sunday.
The situation raises concerns about the ongoing vulnerability of Palestinians to settler violence and the limits of Israeli military intervention in protecting them. The family has vowed to remain on their land, despite the continued threat.
The Israeli military has not commented on the settlers’ continued presence. Abu Ridi and his family are preparing for the arrival of his brother, hoping for increased security.
