Breaking News: Russia has warned it may strike UK military assets in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory using British weaponry.
Russia has threatened military strikes against British targets, both within Ukraine and beyond, following reported Ukrainian use of British-supplied long-range cruise missiles. The warning, delivered by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, came after Kyiv allegedly used British Storm Shadow missiles to strike a shopping centre in Russian-controlled Donetsk – an accusation Moscow claims wounded civilians.
Zakharova stated that Britain was nearing legal complicity in “terrorism” and warned of “catastrophic consequences” unless it ceased supplying weapons to Ukraine. She urged British leaders to abandon their “hostile, aggressive line.” The Kremlin’s Dmitry Peskov accused the UK of “pouring fuel on the fire” and actively “participating in the war.” The warnings followed Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s visit to Ukraine, during which he announced the potential release of classified information relating to British components in SCALP cruise missiles, a French variant of the Storm Shadow, with a range exceeding 155 miles.
British officials have reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine, stating that the UK stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Kyiv and will continue providing necessary equipment for self-defence. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson reiterated the UK’s resolve against Russian aggression, both towards Ukraine and against British interests. Earlier, Russia warned Britain it would pay a “price” for alleged use of British-made drones in strikes within Russia.
The escalating rhetoric follows a meeting between Russia’s Sergei Naryshkin and CIA Director John Ratcliffe in Moscow, described by both sides as routine. The US, meanwhile, has downplayed concerns of a wider conflict, with President Trump stating he does not believe Russia would attack a NATO member.
