Venezuela Earthquake: Two-Year-Old Rescued After Six Days Trapped

Breaking News: A two-year-old boy has been pulled alive from the rubble six days after devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela.

A two-year-old boy, identified as Klieber Moran, has been rescued from a collapsed building in La Guaira, Venezuela, six days after twin earthquakes ravaged the region. The rescue, conducted by Jordanian emergency workers, represents the only reported survivor found on the sixth day of operations following the disaster.

The earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela’s northern coast last Wednesday. As of Tuesday, the death toll has risen to 1,943, with over 10,500 injured. National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez stated officials “must hold onto the hope of continuing to find people alive”. USAR teams from Virginia, California, and Florida, comprising 312 personnel and 18 canine units, are assisting in the search with over 200,000 pounds of equipment. American teams previously rescued a nine-month-old infant, and her mother, with only minor injuries.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the rescue via Telegram, confirming Moran is now receiving hospital treatment. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) delivered 47 metric tons of supplies, including emergency health kits for medical care and newborn support. This aid followed a pledge of $150 million from the Trump administration, along with the deployment of Navy warships, to support relief efforts.

Rescue operations continue, although the window for finding further survivors is rapidly closing. The successful rescue of Klieber Moran offers a rare moment of hope amidst widespread devastation.

What Happens Next

Search and rescue teams will continue to comb through the rubble, though the likelihood of finding further survivors diminishes with each passing day. The focus will shift increasingly towards providing humanitarian aid and long-term support to the affected population.
