Breaking News: Christian leaders from 122 countries convened in Jerusalem to commemorate the October 7th attacks and express solidarity with Israel.
Leaders from the global Christian community gathered in Jerusalem this week for the Friends of Zion Ambassador Summit, marking the anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks of October 7th, 2023. The event, attended by Jewish leaders, released hostages, bereaved families, and diplomatic representatives, served as a memorial and a demonstration of support for Israel, reported Fox News Digital.
The summit saw participation from over 1,000 individuals representing 122 nations. Dr. Mike Evans, founder of the Friends of Zion Heritage Center, stated the aim was to demonstrate to Israel that “the world is standing with you,” countering feelings of isolation following the attacks. Participants visited sites including Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust remembrance center, and the site of the Nova music festival massacre.
Actor Nathaniel Buzolic, hosting the event, highlighted a perceived double standard in global responses to Jewish suffering. He argued that the attacks were rooted in a “radical Islamist ideology” which poses a threat not only to Israel but also to Western societies. Released hostages Agam Berger, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Bar Kupershtein and Evyatar David attended, alongside Holocaust survivor Michael Kupershtein.
Reaction & Context
Israel’s Special Envoy to the Christian World, George Deek, praised the consistent support Israel has received from both Jewish and Christian communities since October 7th. He asserted that the bond between the two rests on shared biblical heritage, a commitment to Jewish safety, and the freedom of Christians in the Middle East. Deek also warned against attempts to “drive a wedge” between Israel and its Christian allies, labelling it a warfare “against the soul of Christians.”
What Happens Next
The delegation will continue to visit sites affected by the attacks, meeting directly with released hostages and praying at significant religious locations, culminating in a visit to the ancient site of Shiloh in Samaria.
