Venezuela Earthquake: Two-Year-Old Rescued After Six Days Trapped

Breaking News: A two-year-old boy has been pulled alive from rubble in Venezuela, six days after devastating earthquakes struck the region.

A two-year-old boy, identified as Klieber Moran, was rescued from a collapsed building in La Guaira, Venezuela, on Tuesday, six days after twin earthquakes ravaged the nation’s northern coast. The rescue was carried out by Jordanian emergency workers, according to Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The child is now receiving hospital treatment.

The rescue provides a rare instance of hope amid widespread devastation. The earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck last Wednesday, resulting in a death toll that has risen to 1,943, with over 10,500 injured. USAR teams from Virginia, California, and Florida, comprising 312 personnel and 18 canine teams, have been deployed with over 200,000 pounds of equipment. Earlier, American search-and-rescue teams rescued a nine-month-old infant and her mother, both sustaining only minor injuries.

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez expressed optimism that additional survivors may be found, stating officials “must hold onto the hope of continuing to find people alive”. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) delivered 47 metric tons of humanitarian aid, including supplies for medical care and newborn support.

The ongoing rescue operation underscores the scale of the disaster and the continued international effort to assist Venezuela. Further searches are expected to continue as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
